The well qualified and caring staff ensure the children are provided with opportunities at the right stages of development to stimulate learning through play in a well equipped and controlled environment. The Children are provided with a happy, relaxed atmosphere in which to discover things for themselves. They are encouraged to be creative and to develop lively and enquiring minds, and especially to play co-operatively with other children and integrate socially. Our fully self-contained baby rooms are themed and decorated to extremely high standards. Each individual room offers excellent quality resources, to stimulate your baby and cater for their individual needs. The activities that take place within these rooms are designed to encourage all round development, with particular emphasis on language and physical development. These activities include, finger rhymes, songs, music, baby gym’s, activity centres, soft toys and mobiles
We believe that stimulation and development are a very important factor. The introduction of our toddler rooms, allow for natural development. We are able to provide simple, but challenging activities that include, finger painting, collage, baking, building bricks, simple jig-saws, push and pull-along toys, simple role-play and many more. Outside toys suitable to this age range are also provided to encourage development.
In our 3 - 5 year Pre-school room children are encouraged and guided, at their own pace, towards the desirable learning outcomes, through play and creative activities. These are the six basic areas of learning that will assist greatly with the transition from nursery into compulsory education:-
1. Personal Social and Emotional development 2. Knowledge and understanding of the world 3. Maths 4. Physical development 5. Creative development 6. Development of Language, Literacy and Communication Through our extensive range of equipment which includes sand, water, clay and playdough, modelling, construction, paint, large and small apparatus, creative activities, and role play, children are encouraged to participate and learn through play. Children’s displays, topic work, special event days and visits are used as an aid to re-enforce learning. Mark making, word and number recognition is promoted with extensive use of labels and flash cards using the letterland system. The children also have access to use computers at an appropriate stage of their development. Stories for the children are an integral part of the day, as are rhymes, songs and music sessions. The progress and development of each child is constantly monitored and discussed with parents when necessary, or required. Children placed within Severn Lodge are provided with nutritious home cooked foods that take into consideration any special dietary requirements |
